Differentiating NAION from glaucoma can be challenging, particularly when the ischemic event is mild, subclinical, sectoral, or evaluated outside of the acute phase. Both conditions result in retinal ganglion cell loss and visual field defects, but their pathophysiological mechanisms differ.
